What a year it's been! Some of the biggest successes came in the summer when Polish athletes won eight medals during the World Athletics Championships in Berlin: two gold, four silver and two bronze. The greatest achievements came in the women’s hammer throw and pole vault where Anita Wlodarczyk and Anna Rogowska won respective gold medals. 


In September Poland's men's volleyball team beat France in the European Championships final in Izmir, Turkey to win the nation's first European Championships gold medal ever. Another undoubted hero of the past year has been cross-country skier Justyna Kowalczyk dubbed by the media the Polish "Snow Queen".
